The Cabinet of Ministers has conceptually approved the resolution furnished by the Minister of Trade for implementing a national program for the establishment of export production villages, says the Government Information Department.
Allocations from the Sri Lanka Export Development Board subject to the guidance of the Ministry of Trade will be utilized for the said program.
The initiative has been planned with the intention of developing rural productions within a formal enterprises model, linking those with the export supply chain and upgrading the local production industries as import replacements.
Through this program, it is expected to cluster villages according to companies of exports comprising similar companies and to provide opportunities for their productions to be exposed to the market as well as to provide opportunities and precautions for the producers to minimize the issues confronted by them.
Furthermore, it has been planned to establish those export production villages covering agricultural fisheries, mechanical and service sectors and set a sustainable existence of those export villages by entering into future trade agreements with top level export companies.
