
Covid-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka soared yet again as 137 more individuals were tested positive for the virus today (03).
According to the Government Information Department, all the fresh cases are connected to the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster: 05 of them have been identified from quarantine facilities and the remaining 132 are close contacts of earlier patients.
Thereby, Sri Lanka registered 409 new infections so far within the day while total positive cases from the cluster reached 8,266.
With the new development, the total number of positive cases confirmed in the country increased to 11,744.
The Epidemiology Unit says 6,140 active cases are currently under medical care.
Covid-19 recoveries reported in Sri Lanka meanwhile reached 5,581 earlier in the day as 332 patients were discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.
Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 death toll hit 23 today as two persons over the age of 60 were posthumously confirmed to have fell victim to the virus.
