Sri Lanka Post has decided to grant a concessionary period for those who could not pay off traffic fines due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.
In a notice, Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne said many people have been unable to settle traffic fines as post offices were closed off in several areas due to isolation status, quarantine curfew and other practical reasons.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance has thereby approved a grace period for such persons, taking into account the recommendations of the Police and the Postal Department.
Accordingly, the time period between the day post officers halted functions since the emergence of 2nd wave of Covid-19 and the day travel restrictions across the country are lifted will not be counted for traffic fines, the Postmaster General said further.
