WHO agrees to provide Covid-19 vaccine to 20% of Sri Lankan population

The World Health Organization (WHO) has agreed to provide the vaccine for Covid-19 to 20 per cent of the Sri Lanka population.

 

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi has appointed a committee to look into the matter, the Health Ministry said in a press release.

 

The remarks came during a meeting held on Monday (09) with the participation of the Health Minister, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Channa Jayasumana and WHO Representative to Sri Lanka Dr. Razia Pendse.

 

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Pendse revealed that the WHO has decided to provide the vaccine to 20 per cent of the island’s population.

 

Accordingly, a special committee has been appointed by the health minister to look into related funding, determine the procedure to select individuals for the vaccine, managing relevant resources, obtaining information and other issues.

 

Secretary to the Health Ministry Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Additional Secretaries to the Ministry of Health and several other officials attended the meeting.
