Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster exceeds 12,000 cases

The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry has confirmed that 277 new cases of novel coronavirus have been identified today (08), marking another grim milestone in the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster.

 

All new cases are close contacts of previously detected patients from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda Covid-19 cluster.

 

This brings the total number of cases from the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda cluster to 12,135.

 

The total number of confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country thus far has thereby increased to 15,627.

 

10,653 of them have recovered while 4,928 are currently under medical care at hospitals. The death toll in the country from coronavirus stands at 48.
