Total Covid-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka went past the grim milestone of 16,000 today (13) as 270 more individuals were tested positive for the virus.
According to the Department of Government Information, all the fresh cases have been identified as close contacts of the earlier patients from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster which saw a record total of 12,695 cases since the beginning of October. Sri Lanka has registered 468 positive cases so far within the day.
Health Ministry’s data revealed that confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka now stand at 16,191.
Epidemiology Unit says 5,107 active cases continue to receive treatment at selected hospitals across the country.
Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 recoveries count meanwhile reached 11,031 earlier today, after 378 patients were discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.
The country has also witnessed 53 deaths from the virus.
