
Total Covid-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka went past the grim milestone of 18,000 today (17) as 241 more individuals were tested positive for the virus.
According to the Department of Government Information, all the fresh cases have been identified as close contacts of the earlier patients from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda. Sri Lanka has registered 398 positive cases so far within the day.
The dual cluster has seen a steady surge in its positive cases since the beginning of October, with a record total of 14,568.
Health Ministry’s data revealed that confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka now stand at 18,075.
Epidemiology Unit says 5,799 active cases continue to receive treatment at selected hospitals across the country.
Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 recoveries count meanwhile reached 12,210 earlier today after 404 patients were discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.
