Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over the most parts of the island in the afternoon or night, says the Department of Meteorology.
Accordingly, showers will occur in the Southern province and in coastal areas of Western province in the morning too.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected at some places in Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Kalutara district.
The Met. Department requests the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
A few showers may occur in the other sea areas around the island, the Met. Department said further.
Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.
Winds will be Easterly or variable in the direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (25-35) kmph.
The sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
