The well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal to the east of Sri Lanka is expected to intensify further into a depression during the next 06 hours and intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to move northwestwards towards the Northeast coast of Srilanka on the 24th of November.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern, Northern, and Northern-central provinces. Very heavy falls above 150mm are likely at some places.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Very strong gusty winds (60-70) kmph can be expected in Eastern, Northern, and North-central provinces. Strong gusty winds (40-50) kmph elsewhere.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by strong winds.

SEA AREAS

Intermittent showers/thundershowers, strong or very strong gusty winds, and very rough or high seas can be expected in the sea areas between 08N-14N and 82E-89E during the next few days.

Intermittent showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvill via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa.

Winds will be northerly in the sea areas around the island.

Wind speed can increase up to (70-80) kmph at times over sea area extending from Puttalam to Pottuvill via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times over sea area extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo.

Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph in the other sea areas.

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvill via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa will be very rough or high at times. Navel and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas.

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo will be rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
