Sri Lanka’s ten-member contingent taking part in the XXXI summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro led by captain Anuradha Indrajith Cooray have left for Brazil.
The Sri Lankan team will include Anuradha Indrajeeth Cooray (Marathon), Niluka Karunanayaka (Badminton), Mathews Abeysingha and Kimiko Raheem (Swimming), Sumedha Ranasingha ( Javelin throw), Mangala Samarakoon (Rifle shooter), Sudesh Peiris (Weight lifter), Niluka Rajasekara (Women’s Marathon), Chaminda Dharmawardana (Judo).
The team has left the National Olympic Committee Office in Colombo and are now heading towards the airport in Katunayake.
The travel to Brazil will be a 36 hour journey with two transit points, but will settle down before the 206-nation games which are to begin in Friday with a stunning opening ceremony.
The first events for Lankans will be on Sunday (07) when Kimiko Raheem Competes in women’s 100m backstroke swimming event.
