Sri Lanka reaches Super Six stage

  Sri Lanka secured their place in the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Thailand in their Group ‘A’ fixture worked off at the MCA Grounds in Wijerama Mawatha on Monday (13).

 

With three wins in the tournament Sri Lanka finished second in the points table behind India, and will carry two points into the next round which begins on February 15.

 

Nipuni Hansika (38) and Chamari Polgampola (49) put on 65 runs for the second wicket as Sri Lanka reached their target in 34.4 overs after having restricted their opponents to 122 for eight.

 

Sripali Weerakkody, Skipper Inoka Ranaweera, who had taken four wickets in the win against Zimbabwe and Eshani Lokusuriyage captured two wickets each.

 

Meanwhile, India outplayed Zimbabwe by nine wickets at the P Sara Oval to finish on top of Group ‘A’.

 

Zimbabwe were bundled out for 60 in 28.5 overs, and India replied with 61 for one to record their fourth win in as many matches.

 

Poonam Yadav, and wicket-keeper Sushma Verma were the outstanding players for India. Yadav finished with figures of five for 19 while Verma effected four dismissals.

At CCC Grounds (Pakistan beat Scotland by six wickets)
Scotland: 91 in 39.1 overs (N. Sandhu 3/13, S. Mir 5/14)
Pakistan: 94/4 in 27.1 overs (N. Khan 20, N. Abidi 21, J. Khan 35 n.o, K. Gordon 4/29).

 

At NCC Grounds (South Africa beat Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets)
Papua New Guinea: 76 in 32.4 overs (B. Tau 30, S. Ismail 2/13, Y. Fourie 2/18, S. Luus 2/13)
South Africa: 77/0 in 13.5 overs (L Wolvaardt 43 n.o, L Goodall 28 n.o).
