The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today announced that a fluke injury could see right-hand batsman Chamara Kapugedara’s Champions Trophy 2017 campaign come to an untimely conclusion.
“The 30 year old was hit on the knee during fielding practice this morning and SLC Medical experts have recommended a supervised convalescence of two weeks.”
Kapugedara’s solid batting performances at the recently concluded Super Provincial Tournament saw him attain a place in the CT17 side, however the batsman has not had an opportunity to show his aptitude in the Champions Trophy thus far.
Kapugedara will be replaced by 26 year old All-rounder Danushka Gunathilaka in tomorrow’s game against India, SLC said in a statement.
