President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship under President’s patronage

The conclusion ceremony of the President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship – 2017 was held yesterday (18) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

 

This tournament was conducted under four categories; Open Male/Female and under the age 22 Male/Female.

 

The Katana United Sports Club won the men’s title while Koswadiya Wijaya Sports Club won the women’s division. The President presented the gold awards and Rs.150,000 worth cheques to the Sports Clubs respectively.

 

The United Sports Club won the Volleyball Men’s Under 22 Championship and the Volleyball Women’s Under 22 Championship won by the Galigamuwa SiriParakumba Sports Club and the President also presented awards, cheques and certificates to them.

 

President Sirisena presented special awards to the institutions in recognition of their service of providing sponsorships for Volleyball game for more than 10 years.

 

The President’s Gold Cup is hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and it is conducted in four stages during a period of four months island-wide.

 

Around 40,000 athletes from 2,500 teams representing over 300 Grama Seva Divisions of the country participated in this tournament. This is the largest event among the Sri Lankan Volleyball tournaments.

 

President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya,Vice President State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Ashoka Priyantha MP, Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation Secretary, A.S. Nalaka and others participated on this event.
