The all-rounder suffered a right hamstring tightness, while he was batting during the Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe game on Wednesday.
Mathews will miss today’s match against Bangladesh and the next game against Zimbabwe.
Dinesh Chandimal will lead the team in his absence, Sri Lanka Cricket said.
