Two persons have been arrested last night (October 01) while transporting a consignment of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’, the police media unit said.

The arrest was made at a checkpoint near Murunkan police station in Mannar.

Acting on a tip-off about a lorry transporting a stock of narcotics, the police officers had expeditiously set up a roadblock to inspect vehicles passing by.

During the operation, they managed to seize a lorry carrying a total of 9 kilograms and 920 grams of ‘Ice’.

The arrestees, aged 30 and 42 years, were identified as residents of Vavuniya area.

They will be produced before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court today (October 02).
