Keshav Maharaj registered career-best figures of 9/129 as South Africa bowled Sri Lanka out for 338 on the second day the Colombo Test.
South Africa had restricted Sri Lanka to 277/9 on Day 1, with Maharaj ending the day with figures of 8/116 before he picked up the last wicket of Rangana Herath the next morning.
The 28-year-old’s figures were the best by a visiting spinner in Sri Lanka.
Overall, it is the second best performance by a left-arm spinner, behind Rangana Herath who had picked up 9/127 against Pakistan.
Had Maharaj conceded three runs less during his spell, he would have bettered Herath’s record.
A last-wicket stand of 74 between Akila Dananjaya and Rangana Herath allowed Sri Lanka to cross 300 for the first time in the two-Test series on a dry, turning Colombo pitch.
Sri Lanka’s tenth wicket has made the second-most runs for them in the series - 164 across both matches - second only to their opening stand, which has scored 211.
