Power interruptions scheduled for tomorrow (April 03) have been reduced to one hour and 40 minutes, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says.

The electricity sector regulator had previously announced six-hour power cuts for tomorrow.

However, the duration of scheduled power interruptions for tomorrow was reduced, as the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) started to receive stocks of fuel required for power generation activities, the PUCSL explained.

The PUCSL said it has received written confirmation from secretaries of the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Energy that the following quantities of fuels will be allocated for the CEB for power generation:

April 02 – 12,000 MT of diesel (under Indian credit line) and 6000MT from IOC 
April 05/06 –12,000MT diesel (Indian credit line)
April 06/07 – 25,000MT furnace oil (Indian credit line)

In addition, reasonable allocation from the anchored oil tanker will be made once the payment is settled.

The PUCSL thereby guaranteed the public that the ongoing power cuts will be reduced considerably in days to come.

Accordingly, the areas listed under groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W will experience power cuts of one hour and 40 minutes between 5.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. tomorrow.

Areas ABCD – from 5.30pm to 7.10pm
Areas EFGH – from 7.10pm to 8.50pm
Areas IJKL – from 8.50pm to 10.30pm

Areas PQR – from 5.30pm to 7.10pm
Areas STU – from 7.10pm to 8.50pm
Areas VW – from 8.50pm to 10.30pm
