CID inquires Alston statement on White flag issue

Rtd. Gen. MP Sarath Fonseka was produced in Courts today over the case filed by the CID regarding the statement given to an English Newspaper that Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave an illegal order not to accommodate any LTTE cadres attempting to surrender with white flags.

 

 

The Criminal Investigations Division(CID) today told court that it required to record a statement from the Sri Lankan Permanent Representative to the UN, Shinuka Senevirathne.

 

 

The CID claimed that they needed information about the inquiry made by United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions Philip Alston following the comment by Fonseka.

 

 

The Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Jayaratne gave the Army permission to detain Fonseka until June 7.
