Sri Lanka has made its way up to the third place in the South Asian Games (SAG) 2019 medal tally as the second day of the tournament unfolded today (03).
The overall meal count of the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal displayed a total of 35 medals bagged by Sri Lankan players with 5 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 18 bronze medals.
Ranuka Prabhath, who took part in the Taekwondo Poomsae individual event under the 17-23 age category, secured the first gold medal for Sri Lanka last evening.
Soon after, taking part in the Taekwondo Pair Poomsae event, Ranuka and Isuri Suhara, a student of the University of Colombo, bagged the second gold medal for the island nation.
Earlier today, the Sri Lankan athletic team’s Nilani Rathnayake won the gold medal in the Women’s 1500m event while Eranga Dilrukshi secured another in Women’s Duathlon event.
In the meantime, Sri Lanka’s Karate, Taekwondo, Badminton, Volleyball and Athletics teams have scooped silver and bronze medals.
Hosting Nepal is currently holding the first place in the medal count with a total of 19 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 9 bronze medals, while India is picking up with 10 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 5 bronze medals in the second place.
