Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) who themselves are amidst the global uncertainty surrounding resumption of cricket has shown great gesture in providing relief to the affected segments of Sri Lanka’s Cricketing community with the sport coming to a complete halt due to the COVID–19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the SLC Executive Committee had decided  to grant its member clubs (ones, which maintain cricket grounds) a sum 100,000 SL Rupees, each, for the months of March and April 2020 to help upkeep the standards of the cricketing venues and infrastructure facilities

District Cricket Associations will also be given a grant of 150,000 SL Rupees in order to help uplift the livelihood of the players of the district squads and its managerial staff, who are facing financial difficulties due to the current situation.

Under this measure, a total of 11 member Clubs (ones, which maintain cricket grounds) and 26 District Cricket Associations will receive financial grants.

The SLC also has provided a monetary advance of 780,000 SL Rupees to the Umpires Association of Sri Lanka, as a relief measure.

Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Cricket Scores Association (SLCSA) has also requested financial assistance from Sri Lanka Cricket for 16 of its members who are full time scorers and now out of work due to the coronavirus lockdown.

In a letter signed by its president Sanjaya Jayasinghe and secretary Jagath Premachandra, the SLCSA has said that the 16 scorers have no means of support due to the current situation.

The letter states that Sri Lanka Cricket pays match fees for scorers ranging from Rs 5000 to Rs. 9000 and as of this moment they should have received payments ranging from Rs.15,000 to Rs. 24,000 if not for the present state of affairs.

The SLCSA has a total strength of 200 members and 16 of them are in a serious financial situation as they depend on matches for sustenance.
