Sri Lankan Cricket Board was gearing up for launching their brand new T20 League named Lankan Premier League on August 28th. 

The league was planned to happen from August 28th to September 20th. Biding for sponsors process was underwent rapidly.

But the latest big news about the league is that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has decided to postpone their new T20 league once again due to the corona virus pandemic situation across the globe. On 11th August Sri Lankan Cricket Board President Shammi Silva announced about the postponement of the tournament.

The SLC president said that there are some practical issues in the country on bringing in the foreign players into the country. The country has a firm rule that all the people coming into the country have to undergo 14 days compulsory quarantine. This has been a barrier on bringing in the foreign players for the league.

“We had a discussion with the health authorities and the 14 day quarantine period for anyone entering the country is compulsory. So it’s difficult to play the tournament at the end of August”, Sri Lanka Cricket President said.

Further he said that the board is expecting to conduct the tournament during November after the conclusion of Indian Premier League. “We will play the tournament in mid-November after IPL” he added. This is the second time, the tournament has subjected to postponement.
