West Indies staged a comeback as they folded Sri Lanka for 386 after the hosts had gotten off to a great start in the first innings of the first Test in Galle.
Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva and Pathum Nissanka were the shining light as Sri Lanka dominated Day 1, scoring 267/3.
But Roston Chase’s five-wicket haul and Jomel Warrican’s three-for helped West Indies restrict Sri Lanka to 386 all out on Monday.
West Indies bounced back in the contest with seven wickets on Day 2. Roston Chase, in particular, removed centurion Dimuth Karunaratne (147) after a double blow to remove Oshada Fernando and Angelo Mathews cheaply on opening day.
He ended up with a five wickets haul. Jomel Warrican also picked 3 wickets.
Karunaratne hit a magnificent century to help Sri Lanka post big runs on the board. Karunaratne scored 147 runs off 300 balls before he was dismissed by Roston Chase.
Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva also scored a half-century each for their side, while Dinesh Chandimal scored 45 off 81 balls.
Sri Lanka have never lost a Test match against the West Indies at home.
