Police have opened fire at a car that failed to comply with the police orders to stop near the Godawela Railway Crossing in Polgahawela today (April 10).

A group of police officers on duty, who were on the lookout for a car that was transporting narcotics, based on a tip-off received by the Polgahawela Police, had reportedly ordered the car travelling from the Kurunegala direction to stop.

However, the police officers had shot at the vehicle, as it continued to travel without stopping despite the police orders.  The gunshot had reportedly hit a tire of the car.

Ada Derana reporter mentioned that the police officers had managed to stop the car after travelling around one kilometer following the shooting, and apprehended three individuals who were travelling inside the car.

The occupants of the car included two men and a woman, according to Ada Derana reporter.

Police have also seized several packets of drugs from inside the vehicle at the time, and had later found some other packets, suspected to also contain drugs, which were thrown away, based on the details revealed during the interrogations of the arrested suspects.
