Sri Lanka is dealt with a blow ahead of the second Test against Pakistan played in Galle, as spinner Maheesh Theekshana is released from the squad owing to a figure injury on his right hand.

Theekshana has so far played two Test matches for Sri Lanka, picking up five wickets.

Accordingly, a new player has been called into the team for the match. The off-spinner Lakshitha Manasinghe, who is an alumnus of Nalanda College in Colombo, will replace Theekshana in the squad.

Manasinghe is yet to make his debut for Sri Lanka, but has an impressive record in first-class cricket. He has picked up 73 wickets and has scored 582 runs in 17 matches.

Meanwhile, opener of the Sri Lanka team Pathum Nissanka is scheduled to rejoin the team again in the second Test.

Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on 11th July that, Pathum Nissanka has tested positive for Covid-19. He was placed under isolation and underwent Covid-19 protocols.

The second Test is scheduled to kick off on the 24th July, at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
