TikTok has announced the start of rolling out support for text posting. Although TikTok was originally a short video platform, image support was later added to videos to compete with Instagram. TikTok will now have text posts. The new option allows creators to share their stories, poems, song lyrics and other written content on the platform, giving them another way to express themselves.
Now when the user opens the camera page in the application, they are presented with three options: photo, video and text. In text entry mode, the user can set the context by adding sounds, specifying a location, enabling comments, and allowing duets. TikTok claims that text messages will be just as interactive and dynamic as any video or photo. There are stickers and hashtags, you can choose from different background colors. The user can create and save draft messages for later editing or delete them entirely.
Many had doubts when TikTok decided to support image posting last year, but now the feature has become a staple of the app. The same is likely to happen with text messages as well, especially since some users are already posting text content in the form of videos or images on TikTok. TikTok’s new feature makes it easier and more intuitive to add text content to the platform.
TikTok’s decision to add support for text posts is timely. While Twitter is actively involved in radical changes and rebrands, it’s time to poach a segment of its audience, namely millions of users. The skyrocketing popularity of the recently launched Threads application also supports this decision. Of course, the format of text messages on TikTok is different than on Twitter, but that’s exactly why it might be interesting for a younger segment of the audience.
TikTok dominates the short video market and now wants to expand beyond this content format to give users more ways to express themselves and compete with other popular social platforms.
