The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has issued an order against a dozen members of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) from staging demonstrations or protest marches in parts of Colombo until 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (July 29).

Thereby, the court order prohibits FSP activist Duminda Nagamuwa and 11 others from protesting in the proximity of the National Hospital Square, the National Eye Hospital and several other establishments.

The OIC of Maradana Police had sought a court order after learning that a group of protesters were planning to stage a protest march from the National Hospital in Colombo to Lipton Circus today.

Taking into account the submissions made by the Maradana police chief, the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court issued an order against 12 FSP members, preventing them from protesting near the National Hospital Square including its Bandaranaike Building, Accident Ward and Cardiology Unit, as well as the National Eye Hospital, the Health Ministry and nearby healthcare institutions, the police said.

The protesters are barred from entering the Deans Road, Kinsey Road and other roads near the National Hospital Square and causing inconvenience to the vehicular movement and pedestrians.

In the event of violation of the court order, issued against activists Duminda Nagamuwa, Roshen Sameera, Ven. Tempitiye Sugathananda Thero, Jagath Dhammika Munasinghe, Ven. Thenne Gnanananda Thero, J.B. Gurusinghe, Chinthaka Rajapaksha, Nayana Ranjani, Nilan Fernando, Lahiru Chathuranga Weerasekara and Vidarshana Kannangara, the protestors face legal action pursuant to the provisions of the Penal Code.
