Advisory issued for heavy rains over 100mm in several areas

The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ level advisory for heavy rains in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.
Accordingly, the prevailing showery condition in south-western part of the island is likely to continue further due to active southwest monsoon conditions over the island, the Met. Department said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, it added.
Heavy showers, above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, according to the Met. Department.
