
The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions are favorable for afternoon thunderstorms in Eastern, Uva Northern and North Central provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North-central provinces and in Kurunegala district during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places.
Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in Puttalam district, it said.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be southerly or south-westerly and speed will be 20-30 kmph.
Wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
