A person who allegedly robbed valuables including gold jewellery from several residences in the Badalgama area after threatening the occupants of the houses with a hand grenade, has been arrested along with his wife while in possession of over 05 kilograms of heroin.
Police said the suspect had robbed several houses in the area during the night by threatening the residents with a hand grenade.
However, it has been revealed that the arrested suspect and his wife are heroin addicts, and that they have used the money obtained from selling the stolen valuables to purchase the drugs.
The suspect had divulged during police interrogations that stolen gold jewellery was pawned off through his wife.
Later during an inspection carried out at the suspect’s house located in the Divulapitiya area, police have discovered approximately 5,350 grams of heroin which were hidden inside the house, according to police.
A hand grenade, gold jewellery valued at around Rs. 700,000 and a mobile phone found inside the house have also been taken into custody.
Badalgama Police are conducting further investigations regarding the arrested suspects.
