The body of a 22-year-old woman was found by the Mulliyawalai Police, buried at her residence in Neeravippitti, Mullaitivu.

The woman’s body was located following a confession made by her 23-year-old husband, who was arrested in Wellampitiya on Tuesday (24 Oct.), after having committed the murder and subsequently fleeing the area.

It was revealed that the suspect had murdered his wife on Saturday night (21 Oct.), after which he had buried her body in their backyard.

Investigations into the incident were launched after the Mulliyawalai Police received a complaint from the deceased’s mother on 22 October, claiming that her daughter was missing, and that her mobile phone remained unresponsive.

Accordingly, the deceased’s body has been placed at the Mullaitivu Hospital for the postmortem examination, while the arrestee is due to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, further investigations into the murder are being carried out by the Mulliyawalai Police.
