A decision has been taken to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles on the Badulla - Colombo main road (route no. 99) between Hali Ela and Uduwara until further notice, due to further risks of landslides, the Badulla District Disaster Management Centre (DMC) announced.

The decision has been taken during a discussion chaired by the Chairman of Badulla District Coordination Committee Major Sudarshana Denipitiya and Badulla District Secretary Panduka Sri Prabhath Abeywardena today (10), in view of the landslide that occurred between Hali Ela and Uduwara yesterday (09).

Accordingly, the motorists are advised to use alternate routes from Hali Ela via Etampitiya to Bandarawela, the police said.

Meanwhile, all long-distance passenger transport buses are also required to use the relevant alternate routes from tomorrow, as per a decision taken during the discussion.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Badulla District, Additional District Secretary, Secretary of the Hali Ela Pradeshiya Sabha, Deputy Director of the DMC (Badulla District) and several other officials representing the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, National Building Research Organization and Disaster Relief Services Centre (Badulla District) were present at the meeting.
