‘Amber’ advisory issued for heavy rainfall

Due to the wave-type atmospheric disturbance, prevailing showery conditions are expected to enhance over many parts of the island over the next few days starting tomorrow (Dec.14), the Department of Meteorology said in an advisory.
As such, the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva, Southern provinces and Nuwara-Eliya and Matale districts are likely to be affected by downpours.
The Meteorology Department warned of heavy rainfall of above 100mm in parts of these localities.
Members of the public have been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
