Showers are expected at times in Southern, Eastern and Uva provinces as well as in Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts, the Meteorology Department says.

Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Anuradhapura districts are likely to receive spells of showers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are possible in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy showers of about 100mm can occur in parts of Southern, Uva, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Eastern provinces.

Misty conditions can be expected in the morning at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be North-easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
