Coinciding with the special island-wide drug operation ‘Yukthiya’, Sri Lanka Police have seized ill-gotten assets worth Rs. 92 million belonging to three notorious criminal figures and narcotics traffickers “Kudu Asanka”, “Ladiya” and “Kudu Sriyani”.

Accordingly, 3 buses, 2 cars, 2 motorcycles, a three-storey house, 4 plots of land, 50 pounds of gold and Rs. 123,000 in cash have been impounded by the Illegal Assets and Properties Investigation Division of the police.

On December 17, Sri Lankan security forces launched a special countrywide operation called ‘Yukthiya’ (Justice) to crack down on organized crimes and drug peddling in the country.

Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has vowed to dismantle the country’s narcotics distribution network and to put an end to the drug menace.

Since kicking off the operation, the security forces personnel have arrested more than 8,500 drug suspects and impounded large consignments of narcotics including heroin, cannabis and methamphetamine (‘Ice’).

Within the past 24 hours ending at 3:00 a.m. on Thursday (Dec.21), a total of 2,008 suspects including 79 women have been placed under arrest.
