
Afghanistan have won the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka with a score of 269 for the loss of four wickets.
Electing to field first after winning the toss, the visitors saw to the Lion’s rapid fall of wickets, taking out opener Dimuth Karunaratne in the second over of the match.
Despite a strong fight being put up by Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and Dhanajaya de Silva, with a 99-run partnership between the duo when the hosts were at a concerning score of 84 for the loss of four, Afghanistan managed to chase down the target score in 46.5 overs.
Albeit star player Rashid Khan being forced out of the match, Afghan batsman Ibrahim Zairean put on a stunning show, with 98 runs under wing, just two short of an ODI century.
The teams are scheduled to meet again at 10:00 a.m on the pitch of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
