The injunction issued by the Colombo District Court preventing the All-Ceylon General Ports Employees’ Union from staging a work-to-rule campaign has been further extended.
Accordingly, the relevant injunction order was extended until 23 January, on orders of Colombo Additional District Judge Chamari Weerasuriya, when the case was taken up in court this morning (09 Jan.).
The All-Ceylon General Ports Employees’ Union initially planned to launch a work-to-rule campaign on 28 December 2023, demanding an increase in salaries.
On 27 December 2023, however, the Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order against the trade unions of the Ports Authority, preventing them from staging a token strike that would disrupt the operations of the Colombo Port.
Despite the court having effectively prohibited the trade unions from conducting their planned trade union action, Chief Secretary of the General Ports Employees’ Union, Niroshan Gorakana had charged that the unions’ members intend on resorting to yet another trade union action after 09 January 2024.
