Passenger bus driver arrested with heroin worth over Rs. 3 mn

Police have arrested a private passenger bus driver in Ella area, while in possession of heroin worth over Rs. 3 million.
The Maho Police had inspected a private passenger bus travelling from Colombo to Anuradhapura on Thursday.
During the search, a small suspicious parcel, which the driver claimed to be his lunch pack, was found near the driver’s seat.
Upon examining the parcel, the police recovered 143 grams of heroin which is estimated to have a street value of over Rs. 3 million.
The 43-year-old suspect has been identified as a resident of the Rajanganaya area, the police said.
The arrested bus driver will be produced before the Maho Magistrate’s Court later today (19).
