
A total of 868 more suspects have been arrested by Sri Lanka’s police and security forces personnel within 24 hours ending at 12.30 a.m. today (Jan. 30) as part of the ongoing countrywide anti-drug operation ‘Yukthiya’.
Detention orders have been secured against 3 of the arrestees, while another 5 were referred to rehabilitation centres, the Ministry of Public Security said.
According to the ministry, the narcotics taken into custody during this period include 120g of heroin, 98 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and 31,611 narcotic pills. Additionally, 123kg of cannabis and 9,708 cannabis plants too were impounded.
The police said 527 drug suspects were among the individuals arrested during this 24-hour window.
