
Another 878 suspects have been arrested by Sri Lanka’s police and security forces personnel within 24 hours which ended at 12.30 a.m. today (Feb.01). The arrests were made as part of the ongoing countrywide anti-drug operation ‘Yukthiya’.
Among the arrestees are 649 suspects who were taken into custody on narcotics-related charges and 229 others who were on the list of wanted criminal suspects.
Detention orders have been secured against 6 of the drug suspects, while another 4 were referred to rehabilitation centres, the Ministry of Public Security said.
According to the ministry, the narcotics taken into custody during this period include 130g of heroin, 134g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 1.2kg of cannabis and 2,211 narcotic pills.
