
Several spells of showers are expected today (Feb.03) in Eastern and Uva provinces and Polonnaruwa and Matale districts, the Department of Meteorology says.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in parts of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Colombo via Galle during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly or easterly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
Wind speed may increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be moderate at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
