President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification this evening (Feb. 03) declaring all services connected to the supply of electricity and the supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel as essential public services.
The Gazette has been issued by virtue of the powers vested in the President in terms of Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979.
The new communiqué comes a month after the services related to electricity and petroleum were gazetted as essential to the life of the community.
