
Sri Lanka Police have added the names of 349 more wanted drug traffickers to the list containing the names of over 42,000 wanted criminal suspects which was previously shared among all police stations across the island as part of ‘Yukthiya’ country-wide anti-drug operation.
Police Headquarters assured that the ‘Yukthiya’ anti-drug operation, which was launched on 17 December 2023, will continue further across the island in order to arrest the drug traffickers and to crack down on the drug networks.
Accordingly, a list of names of 296 newly identified drug traffickers and 53 other close associates of the recently-arrested drug traffickers was referred to all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in charge of police divisions in the country, under the directives of the Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
Meanwhile, 705 more suspects were arrested by the police and security forces personnel within a 24-hour window ending at 12.00 a.m. today (Feb. 09) as part of the operation ‘Yukthiya’.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the narcotics taken into custody during this 24-hour window include 143g of heroin, 134g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 2.88kg of cannabis, and 255 narcotic pills.
