Sri Lanka set 292 target for Afghanistan

Sri Lanka posted a score of 291 runs for the fall of 8 wickets against Afghanistan in their group stage encounter at the 2023 Asia Cup tournament. 

 

Kusal Mendis starred with a 92 while Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana anchored the innings at the death as Sri Lanka posted 291/8 against Afghanistan in their Asia Cup encounter played in Lahore, Pakistan today (05 Sep.).

 

Meanwhile, Gulbadin Naib (4/60) was the most successful bowler for Afghanistan.

 

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bat first against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, on Tuesday. 

 

Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have retained the same teams. 

 

Afghanistan will need to up their game with the ball when they face a skillful Sri Lanka in the battle of a Super4 spot in the Asia Cup on Tuesday. Afghanistan not only find themselves in a must-win situation after the loss to Bangladesh but they also need a victory with a massive margin to finish in the top two of Group B.

 

Their run-rate is in the negative following the defeat here on Sunday night while Sri Lanka, who beat Bangladesh in their opening game, are in the positive with a NRR of 0.951.
