A man has fatally stabbed a woman before taking his own life by hanging himself inside a room at a guest house in Pottuvil, police said.
The couple had been staying in a room at the guest house in Arugam Bay yesterday and owing to a suspicion due to them not opening the door, the manager of the establishment had informed officers at the Argugam Bay Police Post and broke down the door of the room with their help.
They had then discovered the woman in question lying in a pool of blood in the room while the man was found hanging inside the bathroom in an apparent murder-suicide.
The deceased woman is a 35-year-old resident of Mahakalugolla and the man is 51-year-old from Pottuvil, police said.
Pottuvil Police are conducting further investigations.
