Pakistan posted a score of 252 runs for the loss of seven wickets in a rain-curtailed first innings of 42 overs against Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage of the 2023 Asia Cup tournament at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The hosts let it slip from a strong position with the ball, failing to take full advantage of these overcast conditions. After Mohammad Nawaz’s wickets, there was a short rain break, and once Sri Lanka got back in, they failed to pick up wickets, albeit string efforts towards the end.
Matheesha Pathirana picked up three wickets while Pramod Madushan chipped in with two wickets and Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana picked up one wicket each.
Pakistan were off to a shaky start, reeling on 130/5 inside 28 overs. But Rizwan-Iftikhar stitched up a partnership of 108 runs and made their side reach to a commendable total.
Iftikhar Ahmed was dismissed at the very end for just three runs shy of his half-century, while Mohammad Rizwan scored an unbeaten 86 runs for his side.
Sri Lanka now has a target of 252 runs in 42 overs, after the Duckworth Lewis adjustment took one run off of the host’s target.
