A 38-year-old man, who was in possession of a large cache of narcotic pills and cannabis, has been arrested in Hirana, Panadura.

The arrest was made by the Kalutara Police Crimes Division in the early hours of Thursday (04).

As many as 76,796 narcotic pills used instead of heroin and 1kg of cannabis were found on the suspect at the time of the arrest.

In another development, three individuals including a Nigerian national were arrested for being implicated in cocaine distribution.

The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake have made the arrest acting on a tip-off concerning a parcel received by a delivery company in Orugodawatta. The parcel had been sent from South Africa via Dubai, UAE.

The arrestees – two Sri Lankans aged 25 and 30 and a Nigerian aged 38 – were detained for 7 days for interrogation after being produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
