
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested an individual in Dehiwala for allegedly assisting in sending 120 persons to Russia on tourist visas, according to police.
He has been arrested by officers of the Human Trafficking, Smuggling, and Maritimes Crimes Investigation Division of the CID.
Investigations have revealed that the arrested suspect has allegedly aided and abetted the sending of individuals to Russia on tourist visas, by targeting individuals while in front of the Russian Embassy in Colombo.
Police say that the suspect is currently being interrogated and will be produced before court tomorrow (21).
Further investigations will be conducted under the supervision of the Director of Human Trafficking and Maritime Crime Investigation Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samarakoon Banda, and under the guidance of Senior DIG of CID Rohan Premaratne.
