Sri Lanka has made all necessary preparatory arrangements to respond to potential risk situations associated with the Ebola virus, according to Community Health Specialist Dr. Thushani Dabarera.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (01) on the current status of the Ebola situation, she said that the Ministry of Health has already implemented preparedness plans and simulation exercises in line with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
Accordingly, a special surveillance mechanism has been established for individuals arriving in Sri Lanka from countries where Ebola outbreaks have been reported, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Dr. Dabarera further stated that the Quarantine Unit of the Ministry of Health is monitoring passengers arriving through airports and seaports and will immediately notify the Epidemiology Unit in the event of individuals presenting suspicious symptoms.
The specialist also noted that the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) has been prepared to admit suspected Ebola patients and implement necessary treatment and containment measures.
