The United States and Sri Lanka have an opportunity to build a stronger economic partnership, based not only on commercial interests, but also on our shared values and mutual confidence in each other, according to the Governor of the Western Province and President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Investment, Hanif Yusoof.

Governor Yusoof made these remarks after meeting with the US Under Secretary of State, Jacob Helberg at the US Department of State in Washington D.C. this morning.

The Under Secretary and the Governor have held substantive and forward-looking discussions on strengthening the economic partnership between Sri Lanka and the United States.

The meeting focused on Sri Lanka’s next stage of growth, and the role that U.S. investment and technology can play in that journey - whether it be in ports, logistics, energy or data centres, Governor Hanif Yusoof noted.

He added that he was encouraged by Under Secretary Helberg’s understanding of the opportunities and his interest in working with Sri Lanka as the country fast track investment and growth.
