Shakira slams use of her image in Colombia’s presidential campaign

Shakira has denied endorsing any presidential candidates in Colombia after images surfaced on social media allegedly showing her supporting a presidential candidate.

In a statement shared by her team with Billboard on Thursday (June 4), the artist made it clear that she does not support any presidential hopeful and that she has not authorized the use of her name or likeness in electoral campaigns.

“The images circulating of me supporting presidential candidates are fake,” Shakira said. “I do not support any candidate, nor have I authorized the use of my image in any campaign.”

She also reiterated her support for the democratic process and the citizens’ right to freely exercise their vote. “My commitment is to Colombia, to its democracy and to the right of every Colombian to choose freely,” she added. “My wish is for these elections to proceed transparently and in a peaceful environment for all Colombians.”

The posts in question, which appeared on X and have since been deleted, linked the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer to the presidential campaign of Iván Cepeda, a candidate from the Pacto Histórico for Colombia’s 2026 presidential elections. They were shared by an account called @_NicolasMontoya - which uses an image of Shakira as its profile picture - and incorporated elements associated with Shakira’s fan community, including references to the “Wolfpack” and “La Manada de Lobos.” Shakira’s team included screenshots in the statement.

“La Manada de Lobos joins the cause for Colombia,” read the post, which showed Shakira in an image alongside Cepeda and his running mate, vice presidential candidate Aida Quilcué, with the headline “Wolfpack with Pacto Histórico.” “Because @Shakira taught us that education is fundamental in combating inequality in our country.”

The denial comes as Shakira prepares to resume her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour in the United States with a series of shows kicking off on June 13 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. Additionally, on May 14, she released “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy, the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Shakira will once again play a prominent role in the soccer event as she participates in the first halftime show of the final game alongside Madonna and BTS. The World Cup will begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and conclude on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
